About us
Tee off for the birthplace of freedom in America
Every swing you take on the course this year carries more than a scorecard. It carries the story of the men, women, and children who escaped enslavement in the British colonies and walked hundreds of miles south — not north — to reach St. Augustine, Florida, where the Spanish Crown granted them their freedom in 1738.
The community they built, Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose — known today as Fort Mose — was the first legally sanctioned free Black community in what is now the United States. It was the southern terminus of America’s original Underground Railroad. Its residents formed the first free Black militia on American soil.

All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Fort Mose Historical Society — the Citizen Support Organization for Fort Mose Historic State Park. Funds support park programs, educational events, battle reenactments, publications, guided tours, and the ongoing effort to reconstruct a full-scale replica of the original 1738 fort.
